Muga Selección Especial is a red wine from the Rioja region of Spain. It is classified as a Reserva, which means it has been aged for a minimum of three years, with at least one year in oak barrels.
This wine is made primarily from the Tempranillo grape, which is the signature grape of the Rioja region. It also contains smaller amounts of Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano grapes. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure only the best quality fruit is used.
After fermentation, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 26 months. This extended aging period allows the wine to develop complex flavors and aromas. It also helps to soften and integrate the tannins, resulting in a smooth and balanced wine.
In the glass, the 2005 Muga Selección Especial appears deep ruby in color. On the nose, it offers aromas of ripe black fruit, spicy oak, and earthy notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with flavors of black cherry, plum, vanilla, and hints of tobacco and leather. The wine has well-structured tannins and a long, lingering finish.
