Dispelling the myths about rosé wine

Rose wine is one of the most popular drinks today. But do you know how many people don't think of rose wine as wine? They do not see its individuality, they are not familiar with its history, the culture of drinking rose wine itself is alien to them. For them, it is not a drink in its own right, but something in between red and white wine.

In this article, we will try to dispel these misconceptions and encourage wine lovers to try a different type of wine.

Wrong opinion: Rose wine is a creation of modern fashion and has no history.

The truth: Rose wine was first mentioned in the 6th century BC.

Our argument : The first rose wine was created by the Greeks, but, unfortunately, it was dry in taste, but thanks to many years of experience, the bright, tasty and light wine that we know today began to be created.

Wrong opinion: There are no grapes from which pink colour can be obtained, so wine makers are deceiving us and using chemistry to colour.

The Truth: Rose Wine is made from red grapes varieties.

Our argument: Winemakers use a wide range of red grapes to make rose wine, including well-known varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.

No chemicals or banned substances are used, and the wine takes on a pink hue during the fermentation process, which lasts only a few hours.

Generally speaking, there are three ways of making rose wine.

The first method is maceration

This is a method in which the winemakers keep the grapes (usually used to make red wine) in a container with juice for a certain period of time. As a result of this aging, the rose wine takes on a darker colour and a richer flavor and aroma.

The second method is bleeding

A method in which the winemakers «squeezes» the juice out of the grapes in the early stages of red wine production, and then uses the juice to make rose wine.

The third method is blending

A method in which winemakers add a certain amount of red wine to a container of white wine, the wines are "mixed" and pink wine is obtained.

Wrong opinion: Rose wine is not popular in the world.

The Truth: European countries are leaders in the production and consumption of rose wine.

Our argument: Many European countries are involved in the production and export of rose wine.

For example, rose wine is popular in the USA and Italy.

France rightly has the status of one of the most wine-producing countries, it is the leader in the level of production and export of international rose wine – 30% (2 million hectoliters).

Wrong opinion: Rose wine can be exceptionally sweet

The truth: Rose wine can be both sweet and dry

Our argument: The flavors of rose wine are diverse and you should choose a bottle based on your inner preferences. Wine experts disagree as to which wine is better.

The taste of dry rose wine is characterized by the fact that it contains practically no sugar in it, and the aftertaste is colored by notes of sour fruits. This wine is more popular in France, Spain and Italy.

The taste of sweet rose wine is characterized by an excess of sugar, which makes it an ideal dessert wine. This wine is most popular in the USA,

It is worth noting that the temperature of the drink directly affects the taste of the wine. For a better taste, it is recommended to drink it chilled (30 minutes in the fridge is enough).

However, if you do not want to drink the wine immediately after buying it, then it is better to keep it in your wine cellar for a maximum of 3 years.

Wrong opinion: Rose wine is incompatible with food

The truth: Rose wine goes well with many dishes

Our argument: We can say that rose wine combines the best qualities of red and white wine. That is why rose wine goes well with many different dishes: fish and seafood; salads; pizza and meat dishes.
